August 29, 2005 (Press Release) --
(Wild Rose Elementary, Monrovia, CA) Dr. Audrey Lambert, Principal of Wild Rose Elementary School, 232 Jasmine, Monrovia, will host a picnic for Wild Rose's Summer Readers on September 8, 2005, during lunch time. The picnic will be held on the playground at Wild Rose School.
"Before our students left for summer break at the end of the last school year, I gave each student an invitation to send me a post card over the summer with the books he/she had read. I promised that every student who sent me a post card would be invited to this picnic," Dr. Lambert said. "I was so excited when I returned to work this school year and was able to fill up a complete office bulletin board with the post cards that were waiting for me!"
The principal, teachers and staff of Wild Rose Elementary have been working hard to help Wild Rose students not only learn to read, but to learn to love reading. Wild Rose faces a special challenge because over 30% of its students are English learners. One of the most successful family reading programs held at Wild Rose is a celebration of Dr. Seuss' Birthday, which will be held on March 3, 2006 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Wild Rose Cafeteria.
"We received our STAR test results this summer," Dr. Lambert continued. "Our reading scores went up over 7%! I hope that the summer reading program encourages our students even more."
