MASON, Ohio, August 29, 2005 - Intensity Software, Inc. today has announced the next version of the CICS Migration product formerly known as NetKicks™ and released last year as KICKS for .NET™ . The product, now branded KICKS for .NET™ v2.0, will be released on September 29, 2005. KICKS for .NET™ v2.0 includes many advantages over NetKicks™ and other competitive product offerings.
The most important new feature by far is the support for other COBOL compilers such as Micro Focus Net Express with .NET™ in addition to the already supported NetCOBOL for .NET™ product. Intensity has added additional language support that makes KICKS for .NET™ flexible enough to support virtually any COBOL compiler or target language such as assembler, PL/1, and C.... "We felt it was a natural and necessary step to support the Micro Focus Net Express with .NET™ product. Micro Focus controls the lion’s share of the COBOL market and has a very large user base." says Robert Lair, Intensity's CEO, "We are very excited about now being able to offer KICKS for .NET™ to Micro Focus customers."
KICKS For .NET™ is designed to be easily adapted to handle platforms other than CICS. For the State of Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) Unisys 2200 migration project, Intensity Software built a custom conversion tool to convert the Unisys 2200 mainframe screens to migrate to Microsoft .Net under KICKS for .NET™ (originally at DOL, NetKicks™). Other platforms that Intensity Software has identified as target KICKS for .NET™ environments include HP 3000, AS/400 and IMS. "We are very excited about these new offerings. Customers running these platforms now have a migration path to a true .NET solution, something no other company has been able to offer to date." said Robert Lair. "Customers considering migrating one of these platforms should contact Intensity’s sale team right away for more information on how KICKS for .NET™ can help them turn off their mainframe without all the hassle."
In addition to the language and platform flexibility, KICKS for .NET™ v2.0 includes a much more complete support of CICS features. For example, Intensity Software has added support for extended attributes into the product. Screen information stored within extended attributes can now be utilized to generate a more accurate representation of the mainframe screens. Field-level validation specified within extended attributes is now automatically converted into ASP.NET validation controls during the automated translation of the mainframe screens into ASP.NET screens. This dramatically reduces the manual consulting effort required in the migration.
Performance gains are another major enhancement in KICKS for .NET™ v2.0 over previous releases. "The NetKicks™ product was written in NetCOBOL for .NET™. As a result we faced many performance and feature limitations. KICKS for .NET™ has been completely rewritten in C#. We have gained considerable performance increases across the board." says Jeff Barsalou, Chief Architect of Intensity's Legacy Products.
