September 7, 2005 (Press Release) --
This afternoon, amongst criticism of the most monumental bureaucratic failure in American history, Michael Brown stepped down as the head of FEMA. Brown has come under increasing scrutiny for making no relief effort for several days, and instead:
The Associated Press obtained internal agency documents, indicating part of FEMA's mission was to, "convey a positive image" to survivors about the government's response.
When an angry press group pressed Brown this afternoon, he snapped back "I am just a horse guy from Denver. I have NO experience in disaster relief, and frankly have no idea why I got the job. I too am angry… angry at the President choosing me over someone qualified to handle large scale disasters wasn't chosen for this position! How does this make me look? I spoke with the President this morning and have cheerfully resigned my post. I am truly sorry about all of this. I took this job with very serious intentions, and was honored by the President's selection. Regardless, I failed us all. I apologize to every citizen in America and accept limited responsibility for my organization's failures."
With that, a tearful and visibly shaken Brown was escorted out of the conference.
