EasyTel.Net Launches Toll-Free "Disaster Contact Directory" to Help Friends and Family Locate Victims of Hurricane Katrina
Las Vegas, NV -- EasyTel.net, an integrated communications solutions provider, announced today that it has activated a toll-free "Disaster Contact Directory" designed to help family and friends locate loved ones displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
People can call the toll-free number 1-800-341-SEEK (1-800-341-7335) to look for contact information on a loved one, or to register themselves in the directory so that their family and friends can find them. The Disaster Contact Directory will be updated in real-time as new users register, and there is no charge to register OR use the service.
"We understand that one of the hardest things about being split up by a disaster like this is just not knowing if your loved ones are safe," said Thomas Skala, CEO of EasyTel. "That's what the Disaster Contact Directory is all about - helping people find their family and friends."
Anyone who calls the toll free number 1-800-341-SEEK can register. All they need to know is their phone number in the disaster area from BEFORE the hurricane. Registrants will call the toll free number, ask to Register, and then enter their old number from before the hurricane. If they have a new number where they can be reached, they can enter that number as well. Finally, they can record a short message of up to one minute, which will be played for anyone looking them up in the directory.
To find someone using the directory, users should call the same toll free number 1-800-341-SEEK, and request the lookup function. To find someone displaced by the disaster, they would enter that person's phone number from BEFORE the hurricane. If that person has registered, the Directory will play back the message they recorded, along with the new number where they can be reached, if they registered one.
The free program will extend through December 31, 2005 and is offered at no charge or obligation to those utilizing the program.
The Disaster Contact Directory is an integral part of a Hurricane Katrina relief initiative EasyTel announced earlier in the week in partnership with Global Crossing, (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading provider of telecommunications solutions over the world's first integrated global IP-based network. The two companies announced the donation of 10,000 toll-free numbers and free messaging services with phone, fax and email capabilities to victims of Hurricane Katrina. The services are initially being distributed to Hurricane Katrina victims at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX and the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX.
