Brian Reed Garvin has spent sixteen years approaching the film and television industry from every angle possible, working as a producer, director and actor. His hard work and training is paying off with his latest short film, No Experience Needed, which won him a Best Actor Award and a Best Director Award in recent festivals.
Although he produces and directs, his true commitment is to his first love, acting. Garvin said, “I love a good story presented on film. I don’t see actors, but the essence of a character's awakening on screen. I call it the Moses effect. People know Charlton Heston as Moses rather than as the actor portraying a
biblical legend. That is the highest compliment for an actor. It involves putting who you are aside and giving that character the breath of life.”
For five years Garvin studied the dramatic arts and comedy in Chicago. Then in 1992 he moved to Los Angeles to continue his studies. He felt to be a well-rounded actor he had to understand story, production, direction, so he worked in each of these positions. His understanding of the film industry from behind the camera has given him a rare opportunity that not all actors are privileged to have or dedicated enough to pursue.
