International Photography Awards Announces winners of the 2005 Competition.
Los Angeles, California., 9/15/2005 --- International Photography Awards (IPA) announced the winners of this year's IPA Photographer of the Year awards. Catie Zappala of United States was Awarded: 3rd place in Advertising in non-professional category for "Backyard Series" image.
About Catie Zappala:
My name is Catie Zappala and I am a senior at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts. The ‘Backyard Series’ began as a collaboration between myself and four other student photographers. We decided to get together in the dead of winter and photograph one another as a way to motivate ourselves and have fun. This resulted in each of us producing unique and distinctive bodies of work. My work is characterized by a couple of issues that I am interested in: what we do to reveal and conceal ourselves through body language and coverings, such as dress, markings, makeup etc. The final portfolio of images also showed the intimacy and closeness we all share and have for one another. Collaboration can work on many levels and this is one example of how we worked together yet could produce very individual pieces/projects.
I am extremely grateful and privileged to be immersed in a school full of working-artist teachers and creative students. I am also thankful for this opportunity to show my work to a larger audience outside of the context of the classroom.
