The EMA Artist of the Year selection criteria is based on live performance and submission quality. Of over 200 entries The Valley is among four other artists receiving a prize package consisting of: the opportunity to have their CDs played in listening stations in all three Sonic Boom locations for one month, a prize package from Experience Music Project, which includes Acoustic Dual Memberships for each band member, a pair of Mackie Studio Monitors and a Redhook prize package.

The Swingline Records, founded in 1995, has always been in the forefront of the Seattle music scene. The label is a small indie label that works closely with their bands to produce material that the bands and the label are proud of. In 2003 they signed a rising local band, The Valley, whose debut single was released later that year, followed up with a very well received full length in 2005.
