September 23, 2005 (Press Release) --
Fluoride has halved the incidence of dental decay, yet it is still the most prolific and second most expensive community disease and according to the Australian Dental Association it is now increasing due to the high consumption of non fluoridated bottled water.
Almost all cavities occur where the brush, toothpaste, mouthwash and chewing gum cannot reach food that is trapped between teeth and inside grooves after every meal or snack.
Over 80% of cavities occur inside these grooves on chewing surfaces and they can be prevented by fillings or fissure sealants applied by the dentist.
YNDK, a dental research company has found that certain noncariogenic foods like cheese can seal grooves and prevent other foods being trapped for a time while eating. The then produced a chewy Barium Sulphate tablet which was masticated on back teeth before eating a confection and brushing teeth, then taking an x-ray. The Barium sulphate was still in the grooves.
While chewing cheese before eating will help reduce food being trapped while eating, YNDK has patented Sealant tablet formulae that are more convenient and effective. They also help displace trapped food after eating.
YNDK also found that chewing fibre foods like celery after eating helps force saliva around teeth and inside grooves to remove food neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.
They have developed a convenient Brush-floss'n'chew foam strip to conveniently clean gum margins, between teeth and inside grooves after eating and have found it is also a great teaching aid in the Supertooth Plaque Watch school/home e-learning project that can be freely accessed at http://supertooth.ndk.biz in the Internet.

Supertooth plugs the gap where fluoride and toothbrushing are not winning the fight against tooth decay.
