September 23, 2005 (Press Release) --
Each scene seems to be a classic movie scene remixed but when they are viewed in this way another story starts to form. It’s actually very good I couldn’t keep my eyes off of it. My friend told me just listen to the music and look at the pictures and it will make sense. The music by all the legends like Biggie, Pac, Jay Z, Nas, Redman and more put the classic movie scenes into a whole other arena. The way the menu is set up you can view the entire movie or you can break it down into music videos.
I don’t want to give away the story but I can’t wait to see what these guys come up with next. So much of what you see is the same old thing rehashed it’s not even entertaining. This is the same old thing rehashed and in some ways it’s better than the originals.
After watching it I got in touch with Dwight Redman, on of the producers of the video and asked him a few questions about it.
“How did you guys come up with the idea to do this?”
“Well, it really started as something we did to entertain ourselves while we worked producing video’s for other clients. I would be in the editing room and an idea would just come. You know, what if we put 50 cent over the shoot out scene from Heat? That type of thing. It just spread from there.”
“So you didn’t plan on selling it?”
“No, not at all. We sell all those movies on our website so we basically used it to promote to the hip-hop generation. People were calling us asking for them so we started selling them.”
“Do you sell them in stores now?”
“We tried to get Blockbuster to buy them in 2002 but they wouldn’t take it until we got all the clearances. So it’s just one of those underground things now. We give it away online at limewire and kazaa, places like that. It helps us move units for the artists. Since we started giving it away free we’ve been selling more movies and music than ever. People see the video and want the movie or the music.”
“Do you plan to make any more of them?”
“Not really we have so many things on our plate right now, like Honor Amongst Thebes the movie, which is based on the book the we are publishing. It’s just too much. You might see some additional clips online because we still get bored in the editing room but I doubt we will package it and everything.“
“Once you got the clearances how come you didn’t market it?
“By that time it was two years old and we were moving on. It was probably getting us more money by helping us sell products than it would have made. Plus how do you market something like that? We really couldn’t figure out how to do it. But something must have gone right it’s downloaded over 2000 times a month from limewire alone.
“Well how long will it be until the feature film is finished?”
“To be honest with you I really couldn’t say. Since we are financing everything ourselves it may be another year. Since the money is coming we are focusing on casting the right people for the story and things like that. It takes time to get everything together.
“Can I get a copy on DVD? It’s so much better with the menu’s.”
“Sure I’ll send you one today. If you get us enough press I’ll send you a thousand of them.”

Honor Amongst Thebes the DVD, at first glance seems to be the strangest thing you’ve ever seen until you notice it’s magnetic appeal. From the opening menu it’s in your face.
