September 26, 2005 (Press Release) --
September 27, 2005 – Austin, Texas – This month local baby sling manufacturer ZoloWear, Inc. celebrates its 4th Anniversary by donating 48 of its baby carriers to Hurricane Katrina victims. ZoloWear, Inc. was the brainchild of Darien Wilson, a local Austin mom who has become a top supplier in the baby wearing market. Not just another mom trying to sell baby craft items, this “Mompreneur” has built a booming business based on one of today’s most convenient, must-have parenting items – the baby sling. Baby slings and pouches help parents carry their children safely and lovingly. And ZoloWear has turned baby slings into fashion accessories that are definitely hip enough for Austinites and parents around the globe.
What better way to celebrate a 4th Anniversary than to donate much needed products to those Hurricane Katrina victims left without necessities for their babies. Baby slings have become one of the most popular ways to carry babies due to their effective, comfortable, and practical design that allows moms to “wear” their babies hands-free. Not only has ZoloWear, Inc. been in business for four impressive years, their baby slings have become so hot that they had to start mass-producing them in March 2005. Initially in 2001, Darien Wilson decided to sew her own slings after finding the limited choices of slings available were uncomfortable and difficult to use. In 2002 Mrs. Wilson hired a seamstress to handle the growing number of orders. Mrs. Wilson is proud of the fact that her business is Austin-based and family-operated. Her husband Joe maintains the website and oversees the finances. And although daughter Zoe must be credited as Zolowear’s original muse, her new baby brother Clark does his part, too. Clark goes everywhere in his sling, modeling the products and teaching baby-wearing by example.
What sets ZoloWear baby slings apart from typical baby carriers are the delightful fabrics. No tie-dye or yellow duckies here. Darien explains, “We’re constantly updating our slings with the latest cutting-edge fabrics for each season. The silk brocade slings are fabulous enough to be worn while accepting an Academy Award or they can turn a simple pair of jeans and tee-shirt into an incredible outfit.” For all those hot Texas months, ZoloWear also offers Solarveil slings for summer that are lightweight, sun-blocking, breathable fabrics to keep mom and baby cool and dry whether worn poolside or shopping on a hot day. Needless to say, Darien Wilson is yet another reason to take pride in the vast talents of Austin’s impressive residents and entrepreneurs.
