Seattle, WA (September 24, 2005) – The public is invited to attend the largest and most comprehensive disaster preparedness event of its kind October 21 and 22 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Called Are You Ready?, the event is free and open to the public and will feature numerous disaster preparedness agencies, sponsors, vendors and experts to educate and prepare citizens to deal with virtually any disaster. Sponsors of the event include the King County Office of Emergency Management, Safeway and Pageantry Northwest. Media partners include KIRO 7 TV and Infinity Broadcasting.
The conference is endorsed by the American CPR, the Red Cross, Gov. Christine Gregoire and King County Executive Ron Sims. “Common sense tells us that every family and business in Washington ought to have a disaster preparedness plan. This event can go a long way to helping the citizens of this state be ready for the inevitable,” said Sims. “Everyone one who understands that our region is at risk due to natural and man-made disasters must become better prepared for emergencies and disasters. Individuals and families need to both educate themselves on the risks they face and how to become prepared to be on their own for a minimum of three days,” said Eric Holdeman, Director of the King County Office of Emergency Management.
The Friday, October 21 session will be oriented toward businesses and workplace preparedness. Saturday’s session will be aimed at families, teens, high school and college-aged participants. Numerous vendors will be on hand both days selling and explaining their wares, such as first aid and survival kits, residential earthquake retrofit, corporate security products and communications gear for emergencies. Raffles sponsored by the expo participants will take place both days.
Sponsors of the event include Wholesale Direct First Aid, Safeway Stores, AEDGrant.com & the local Eyewitness News station, KIRO TV 7.
Workshops during this two-day expo include a free Adult, Child & Infant CPR Class, Free First Aid, Fire Safety in the Workplace, Volcanic/Earthquake/Tsunami Threats in the Northwest, Babysitting Safety, How to Become Prepared, Understanding and Addressing the Threat of Terrorism, and much more. For more information regarding workshops and to RSVP, please visit www.Preparedness-AreYouReady.com/workshops.aspx.
