October 4, 2005 (Press Release) --
A 34-year-old Canadian entrepreneur is hoping to contribute thousands to the Red Cross for hurricane relief by selling one million pixels of ad space for a nickle each on his website's main page.
T. Turner, from Vancouver, British Columbia, set up onemillionpixels.com after thinking of ideas on how to help with the recent hurricane troubles. Turner said that he wanted to help the victims in a unique way: "I got the idea from the popular Million Dollar Home Page, but I wanted to use the money to help others."
"Those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita need our assistance," Turner commented, "and perhaps this website will provide some relief for the victims. The American Red Cross can provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need."
Turner says that people can use the pixels they buy to display an ad or logo and have a link to their own site or one of their favorite internet sites.
"It's inexpensive enough for businesses and individuals to purchase advertising space in a new and exciting format," Turner said, "And it's for a very good cause."
