October 11, 2005 (Press Release) --
At 7:00pm this Friday, October 14th 2005, a D.C.-based young, up-and-coming company, TheMovement.US, Inc., will host a reception on the eve of the 10th Anniversary of the Million Man March. The event, which will take place near the University of the District of Columbia in upper Northwest Washington at the Egyptian Embassy, is designed to bring together young professionals with diplomats, business people, and members of D.C. literati to discuss key issues facing the community. The reception will feature live music, artwork, spoken word and other entertainment.
TheMovement.US,Inc. Reception at the Egyptian Embassy will help strengthen the bridge between Americans and Africans in the Diaspora and assist with mobilizing political and business leaders nationally. There is no better time nor more appropriately fitting occasion than the 10th Anniversary Commemoration of the historic Million Man March to pay tribute to the concepts which promote Pan-Africanism and political empowerment for Americans and Africans globally.
African-American men from across the country gathered on Washington's National Mall October 16, 1995 for a massive Million-Man March advocating unity, atonement and global partnerships. In one of the largest marches ever seen on the Mall, participants were asked to pledge to "clean up their lives and rebuild their neighborhoods". One decade later October 15th 2005 once again represents a Day of Atonement and reconciliation for Americans and Africans globally.
“This march is an opportunity for us, in massive numbers, to look inward at our challenges, recognize that we are all burdened but responsible to do and be better people” says Jomo Bellard reception convener and past NAACP National Staff member. “Our reception will be a nice place for leaders and participants in the march to find cultural refuge, exchange concepts, and be amongst others that are interested in helping to change our futures for the better”.
TheMovement.US, Inc. was founded in 2002 with the idea of creating social change through positive activities and products. Services include motivational speaking, consulting, and the sale of products bearing the company’s brand.
