Born in Gulfport, Mississippi Michael spent much of his life on its coastline. In fact, he grew up in just minutes from the shore of the Gulf of Mexico and as child, spent many hours with his grandfather. This relationship with his grandfather influenced much of his work we have come to love.
“My grandfather to me represented the old south. His countenance and his vernacular spoke volumes of a place and time far removed from anything I would ever experience. Yet in the wisdom he imparted, he spoke of the south as a place of comfort and of beauty.”
