October 26, 2005 (Press Release) --
October 27, 2005, West Hollywood, CA – Kindred Media Group announced today that it has partnered with Solaris Entertainment to begin production on writer-director Ed Radtke’s “Superheroes,” the first film to be financed at the production stage by Kindred.
Produced by Greg O’Connor (“Tumbleweeds,” “Miracle”) and Solaris exec Josh Fagin with industry veteran Ira Deutchman, “Superheroes” is an lyrical and imaginative independent feature film that tells the story of a thirteen-year old orphan thief who escapes the mean streets of New York by stealing video cameras with his friends and retreating into the documented lives of New York City tourists. “Superheroes” began production on October 15, 2005, and stars Jeremy Allen White, Peter Appel, Justin Soto, Samantha Hosie-Leung, Gil Rodgers, and Ed Seamon.
O’Connor is also producing the upcoming “Pride & Glory” for New Line, which will star Colin Farrell, Edward Norton, and Nick Nolte. Ed Radtke’s last film, the highly acclaimed “The Dream Catcher,” garnered over eleven awards at major film festivals worldwide, including the LAIFF, the New Directors series at Lincoln Center, and Locarno.
“Superheroes” will employ a myriad of digital formats to tell the story and will incorporate images shot by local youth in conjunction with The LIFT Project, a non-profit organization that Radtke and the producers launched in the summer of 2004. The LIFT Project is a three-week summer workshop that trains at-risk youth to make short digital films. For the second straight year, the films were premiered at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theatre.
Joe Nicolo, Executive Vice President of Kindred media Group discovered the opportunity, and had the following to say, “I've been a big fan of Greg O'Connor's work for some time now. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to work on a project with him and Ed Radke.”
“I have been a huge fan of Ed Radtke’s work. I’m excited to finally be working with him and help support his vision,” said O’Connor. “’Superheroes’ is Ed’s poem to disenfranchised youth and I am proud to be part of such a beautiful, imaginative film.”
Jeffrey D. Erb, President of Kindred Media Group said, “We’re excited that one of Greg’s films is the first film that Kindred has invested in as Executive Producers. We feel that Greg and Ed’s vision will provide a new outlook on individual lives.”
Deal was negotiated by Joe Nicolo and Frank Vitolo for Kindred, with Greg O’Connor of Solaris Entertainment representing the producers.
