October 31, 2005 (Press Release) --
Mike Anders, who worked for years as a broadcast journalist in and around Washington DC, is retiring, but this time it is from Northrop-Grumman Corporation after nearly twenty years working in the defense industry. Anders who started a second career in 1987 after leaving WMAL Radio in Washington DC, went to work for BDM International. Asked how difficult a transition was it to make from being a "journalist" to working in the defense industry Anders replied, "The biggest difference is that in journalism you are always asking questions and raising issues. Rarely are you given a chance to answer any questions or address any issues. I got the change to not only identify problems, many of then dealing with National Security issues, but also was tasked to find solutions to them as well. Now that was exciting."
Anders says seeing how government works from both inside and out provided him with many useful insights. Asked about his most interesting project as a defense contractor, Anders replied, "Working with Gen. Bert Stubblebine was probably the most interesting. Unfortunately, I can't say much about it, for obvious reasons." Anders was asked if he encountered any possible "conflicts of interest" while working "inside" government considering his working as a journalist? "No, interestingly enough. It didn't take long to come to the realization that the 'government' really doesn't know all, nor can it do all. No right-wing or left wing conspiracies at the highest level either, sorry!"
Asked what are his current plans, Anders replied, "I have a few projects that I have had to put on the back-burner that I can now pay more attention to. Other than that, I plan to take it easy!"
