Sacramento, Calif. — Former Woodland High student and wrestling standout Chad Augustin is continuing his winning ways. Chad won the lightweight division on Oct. 22 at the Sacramento Bodybuilding Championships in Sacramento. The event brought bodybuilders from all over the state to participate in the highly competitive event. Augustin has enjoyed success over the last few years, taking first-place trophies in his last five competitions.
“I like bodybuilding because it is a competition against myself,” Augustin said. “It is really a mental game because of the dieting and hard training. I always think that if I come to the contest in the best shape I can be, I am a champion. Winning is just the icing on the cake!”
Chad currently lives in Elk Grove, Calif. with his wife Sandra Augustin, who won the Women’s Tri-Fitness (WTF) world championships this last summer in Las Vegas. Augustin is a Captain with the Sacramento Fire Department and also works as a flight paramedic with PHI/Airmed team in Modesto.
Augustin, 32 years old, has been competing as a bodybuilder for 10 years. “I started bodybuilding after an injury my first year of college prevented me from continuing with wrestling,” he said. “I needed something to keep me going and working hard.”
Among Augustin’s other first-place trophies are champion in the middlewight class at the Police and Fire Olympics in 2003, first in the lightweight class at the Sacramento Bodybuilding Championships in 2002 and first in the lightweight class at the Tournament of Champions in Southern California in 2001.
Augustin has worked for the Sacramento Fire Department for seven years. He was promoted to Engineer in 2003 and promoted to Captain in July 2005. He has been a paramedic for 10 years.
