November 8, 2005 (Press Release) --
Finding Bleak House a little hard to follow? Well, no more, because there’s a new web site up and running that promises to take away the complexities and present the story in easily digestible bite-size chunks.
www.dickens-online.co.uk presents the original story in an absolutely faithful chapter-by-chapter evolution of the plot that takes up around just 5% of the length of the original. Every character and location is also faithfully recorded and fully indexed. The site also includes biography, bibliography and a very useful section on ‘Money in Dickens’ time’.
Bleak House is around 350,000 words long, one of Dickens’ longest and most complex stories. A Snapshot Bleak House is just 20,000 words, but because it’s a totally accurate chapter-by-chapter rendition, readers who want to know more can go direct to the stated chapter.
Produced by writer and Dickens’ scholar Martin Morris, all Dickens’ novels will be available as Snapshot Classics during 2006.
