A new report from SQL Server experts Edgewood Solutions, “SQL Server 2005 Adoption Issues: Evaluating Risks and Readiness,” helps companies identify the key risks and benefits of a SQL 2005 upgrade.

Wilton, NH, Nov. 5, 2005 – Small and large companies planning to upgrade or migrate to Microsoft’s just-released SQL Server 2005 face a number of challenges  both in security and data integrity – but a new report from SQL Server experts Edgewood Solutions, “SQL Server 2005 Adoption Issues: Evaluating Risks and Readiness,” helps companies of all sizes identify the key risks and benefits that may affect their upgrade process.

The report compiles opinions and analysis from a random survey of 462 U.S. database administrators, developers, business intelligence managers, IT managers, and knowledge workers conducted from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15, 2005. The remaining top five risks sited are the cost/time to upgrade, fear of migrating from a stable platform, and immature security. The top five perceived benefits sited in the report are: improved performance, .NET integration, T-SQL enhancements, SQL Server Integration Services and BI/reporting services.
“According to our study, only 13 percent of companies indicate they are free of any roadblocks and could upgrade immediately,” said Jeremy Kadlec of Edgewood Solutions, report contributing author. What does that mean for industry-wide adoption of SQL Server 2005? “Overall, between 40 and 55 percent of companies of all sizes indicate they will upgrade to SQL Server 2005 within a one-year plus timeframe,” Kadlec added.
