November 9, 2005 (Press Release) --
Boca Raton, Florida - November 4, 2005 - Just before Hurricane Wilma cut off the power to his computer, Zac Rich had a realization and figured out how to distribute his organizations music television program to viewers nationwide. He created short "video podcasts" that could be downloaded to viewer's computers or to their video ipods. He uploaded the first podcasts to Itunes but had to wait 8 days until his power came back on to find out whether or not they had been successfully added. They were and viewers all over the United States are now able to download Swept Away TV interviews free of charge on Itunes, (www.apple.com/itunes)
The technology Rich uses requires him to re-edit the broadcast interview and export it to a mpeg4 file sized to 320 by240, the only type of video supported by the new video ipod. He creates an RSS feed and imports the feed to Itunes. Viewers can search Itunes for Swept Away TV and find feeds to subscribe to free of charge.
Currently there are 4 podcasts from Swept Away TV available on Itunes. They are interviews from The Exit (Windup Records), Our Lady of Peace (Columbia Records), The PlanetSmashers (Vertical Records) and the viewer's favorite The All American Rejects (Interscope Records). All of the interviews were done in South Florida by the college age cast members of the 6 year old show.
Cast members from Swept Away TV plan to create podcasts from all of their upcoming interviews and to raid their archives for past interviews that would make great podcasts, In their
6 year history, the students have done more than 500 interviews which such artists as Maroon 5, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Reel Big Fish, Seether, 3 Doors Down, OAR, Unwritten Law, Click5, Avril Lavigne, Gavin Degraw, and John Mayer.
"Portable media like podcasts are the entertainment of the future, said show editor Zac Rich, 19. "Eventually you'll just take your entertainment with you wherever you go, and these first podcasts are a great start for us." "We always want to try something new, cutting edge, and dive right in," he added.
