November 30, 2005 during the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy's General Membership Meeting and Holiday Celebration Marica Migts commitment to music and the Recording Academy will be honored.
A Maestra of many elements, multi-instrumentalist, producer and educator, Ms. Migts most recent performances include with the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame Allstars, Globestar Recordings Alex Puentes of the Alex Cuba Band, 2005 San Jose Jazz Festival Wayne Wallaces Rhythm and Rhyme, Sonoma Jazz Festivals Unplugged Series, 2005 International Association of Jazz Educators' with the African American Jazz Caucus Allstar Big Band (2004's Featured Artist performing with the Historically Black Colleges' University Allstar Band); 2004's Monterey, Stern Grove and Fillmore Jazz Festivals as the only female saxophonist with Anthony Brown and the Asian American Orchestra; and with Wayne Wallace and Pete Escovedo at 2004s Vallejos Jazz Festival.
With musical skills crossing multiple genres, this year shes recorded with Dr. Anthony Brown's Asian American Orchestra on his latest release, Gershwins Rhapsody; performed with the Northern California Lighthouse Singers at their 25th Anniversary conducted by Helen Stevens and Stephen Roberts; and her latest project-as-producer, Passing the Baton: the Miget-Redd Session Part 1 streams and is available on www.mee-j.com. Her performance pedigree includes multiple appearances with Carlos Santana, and such national and international notables as Kenny Barron, Donald Byrd John Handy, Bebop legend Freddy Redd, Larry Ridley, Buddy Baker, Frank Foster, , Tyrone Hill of Sun Ras Arkestra, Karl Perazzo, Susanne Cianni, Daria, Phish, John Santos, Babatunde Lea, Abel Sanchez-Jorge Santana and Prophet, Jaimeo Brown and Dartanyan Brown to name a few.
Based in the Bay Area since 1988, Ms. Migt has been the Director of a preeminent private school creating the foundation for some of Marins best musical talent. Miraflores Music Academi has produced the likes of, Jeff Derby, Jaimeo Brown, Alex Baky, J.J.Byars, Lou Wiskus, Robby Marshall, Isabella Quereshi, Zach Gunsell, Dan Birch, Bram Kincheloe, Elecia Strauss, Seth Paris, Kristina Hoffman, Andrew Capra and Salvador Santana. Students from Miraflores Academi had been selected for prestigious groups like the International Monterey High School All-star Jazz Band, California High School All-State Band, California High School All-State Concert Band, the San Francisco High School Jazz Allstars and attend a number of institutions on a variety of scholarships, such as Oberlin College, Sarah Lawrence, Berklee School of Music, the New School to Cal Arts, Manhattan School of Music, NYU, USC and UCLA or performing professionally with such names as Bill Watrus, Mingus Big Band, and Greg Tardy. The array of award-winning students from Miraflores have performed in such events as the Duke Ellington Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, the International Association of Jazz Educators Convention, San Jose Jazz Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival, San Rafaels Italian Street Painting Festival, et al.
