November 12, 2005 (Press Release) --
Los Angeles, November 13, 2005 -- More than 25 elected and appointed women from throughout L.A. City and County are joining the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC), Los Angeles Metro chapter, and the Latino Business Conexion for a “Meet and Greet” on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 under the theme “Who Drives L.A.?”
Ranging from State Assembly Members to Councilwomen to Executive Directors of Governmental Commissions, these women are making a difference in the local and regional political arena, as well as doing their part to establish a louder, more cohesive political female voice -- and they will be honored by NWPC for such contributions.
“The NWPC is a multicultural, intergenerational, and multi-issue grassroots organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging women to run for public office in this day and age where the number of female elected officials is dwindling, . . ” noted Julia Sylva, President elect of NWPC-LA, “. . .the honorees are ideal spokeswomen for the NWPC’s devotion and commitment to increasing female representation in elected positions.”
Sponsored by Staples, Blue Cross of California and Mercedes Benz, this event is part of NWPC’s grander goal of having women make up 50% of Congress by the year 2020. There is no doubt that having women’s perspectives on important issues including, but not limited to, equal rights, health care for women, and reproductive choice could greatly affect the political sentiment of our country.
Join NWPC-LA as they pay tribute to these amazing women and find out how they are paving the way to a greater L.A.
