Longwood, FL November 15, 2005 -- On October 22nd, Hurricane Wilma was bearing down on Florida. All eyes were on the storm, wondering when and where it would hit. The mood across the state was one of uncertainty. Until a few hours before the event began, many attendees weren't sure they would feel comfortable venturing out. But, in the end, record crowds attended the Sun Trust 9th Annual Dancing in the Dark event in Orlando, a fundraiser for The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB).
"During times of uncertainty it is all the more important to contribute to wonderful charities," said William J. Chatlos, President of The Chatlos Foundation, which has long supported the FFB. "Events such as Dancing in the Dark help highlight the great work done by FFB and give individuals as well as groups like Sun Trust and The Chatlos Foundation a chance to contribute to this group."
The Foundation Fighting Blindness is ranked as a "Top-Rated" charity by the American Institute of Philanthropy. It has also been named one of Worth Magazine's "100 Best Charities."
"It would take more than the threat of a hurricane to stop the dancing," said Carol Nicholas, who works with Chatlos." This event is a chance for the community and corporate world to come together and support a worthy cause." The event was attended by 150 people and raised $50,000.
The urgent mission of The Foundation Fighting Blindness, Inc. (FFB) is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP), macular degeneration, Usher Syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. William J. Chatlos serves on the Board of Directors for The Foundation Fighting Blindness. More information is available online at http://www.blindness.org.
