November 16, 2005 (Press Release) --
WOODLAND HILLS - Mick Jagger celebrates his birthday on July 26 and has asked Woodland Hills resident Shawn Solati to Prague for the party.
Jagger's publicist, Helen Levy, confirmed that Jagger recently phoned Solati at his Woodland Hills home to invite him to the Czech Republic for the Rolling Stones' tour and the big birthday bash. "Mick met Shawn years ago after a show during one of their US tours and they've maintained a friendship ever since," said Levy.
Solati's own recollection of the encounter is a bit foggy. "It was a pretty wild night. Somehow I found myself being invited along to someone's hotel room - I think Bono was in town. That must have been where I first met Mick. He wanted to know where I get my hair cut." Solati smiled, thinking about the moment. "But other than that, I don't remember much."
Should Solati attend the birthday festivities, he'll find himself rubbing shoulders with a veritable Who's Who of celebrities, including artist Tracey Emin, actor Ewan McGregor, and supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
Solati says he has met enough stars to be relaxed in their company. "The funny thing about celebrities," he says, "is that in private they can be very different from their public image. I remember Mick telling me that his favourite bedtime reading is The Economist. Who'd have guessed."
Regarding Jagger's party, Solati is uncertain whether he can attend. "I've got a lot going on around that time," he states. "On the other hand it is his birthday and he did offer to put his private jet at my disposal, so I suppose I should make the effort."
When asked how long he'd been a Stones fan, Solati says, "For as long as I can remember." He pauses for a moment, then adds. "Well, there was that period during Bridges to Babylon when I sort of gave up on them. But other than that, I've always been a fan."
Solati's own birthday is coming up soon. Will Jagger be attending? "Oh, I'll ask him," smiles Solati, "but he's not as young as he used to be, you know. He has trouble keeping up with my rock 'n roll lifestyle."
