Meeting through Ariel’s brother, Matt and Ariel decided to start Something New in the summer of 2001. They shifted through different changes with a few bassists and lead singers when they finally stuck with Jared in the summer of 2004 and Matt just started singing. Located in a very small town in Eastern Colorado, they spend a lot of time practicing in Matt’s basement and doing as many shows as possible in Denver.
The boys are young but talented. Ariel, Matt and Jared write most of the music and lyrics while Brian does the drum beats. A lot of influence comes from bands like Fallout Boy, New Found Glory, Mest, and H20. Their sound is a mix of emo/punk correlating along the lines of Matchbook Romance.
In April of 2005 they professionally recorded a three-song demo at Eight Houses Down studio and Denver. Their song ‘Leaving’ will be featured on the 2005 Vans Warped Tour scratch vol. 24 cd. The band is also featured in the Props BMX Video.
Something News’ priority is to get a good 12-song cd out for everyone to hear. They are finishing lyrics on two more songs and recording in the studio in December.
