November 22, 2005 (Press Release) --
On Sunday, November 20th, 2005, Harvard Divinity School student Zach Warren broke the Guinness World Record ™ for the "fastest marathon while juggling three objects," with a time of 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 5 seconds at the Philadelphia Marathon. Warren’s record is part of an effort to raise $10,000 for a children’s circus in Afghanistan.
The previous Guinness Record under review was set by one of Canada’s top marathon runners, Michal Kapral, on October 5, 2005. Kapral joggled to a 3:07:46. Without juggling, Kapral’s best marathon is 2:30:40. Earlier marathon joggling records include:
3:20:49 by Paul-Erik Lillholm (Norway) at Karlsruhe, Germany, 2000
3:22 by Ashrita Furman (USA) at Salmon River, Idaho, 1988
Warren is a laughter researcher at Harvard and believes that laughter and play can be sources for healing. Over the summer, he lived in Kabul with the Afghan Mobile Mini Circus for Children, a child protection NGO. He plans to attempt two more Guinness World Records in 2006, including "fastest 100 miles on a unicycle" and "most miles in one hour on a unicycle."
