There is an ever increasing consumption and demand for energy in China and India. To meet this demand China is constructing its first LNG terminal at Guangdong to yield a capacity of 158 Bcf, which is expected to be ready by 2007. In 2008, another terminal would come up at Fujian, then four more at Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong and Jaingsu. The Jiangsu project will supply 2,400 MW gas-fired power . Guangzhou, a business district hub in China will take up an LNG power project namely Guangzhou Pearl River Liquid Natural Gas Power Co. Ltd., involving USD 71 million.
According to a recent market research report, “New Projects Lead to a Boom in the Global LNG Market- Industry Analysis (2005-2010)” by RNCOS, China shares 1.25% of the world’s natural gas reserves ranking 18th while India ranks 26th. Further opportunities are being explored in Asia with India and China as primary markets. Soon India would have two projects at Dhabol and Hazira each with 122 Bcf capacities. At the Indian export front, an order for eight new LNG carriers at 1.65 billion dollars is already planned. For Iran – India shipping line would send a capacity of 43500 Cum of LNG each by 2010.
