Sounds Good launches ‘Precision Laminate’, a new on-body print process for duplicated CD-Rs and DVD-Rs.
Sounds Good, based in Theale, near Reading, is one of the UK’s leading independent CD and DVD manufacturing companies. The company, which has been providing disc duplication and replication services in the Thames Valley for over 13 years, has developed the exclusive ‘Precision Laminate’ system in order to overcome the inherent quality and logistical problems of existing short-run disc print processes.
Sounds Good director, Henry Smithson, explains, “Our customers demand the same quality of print on a duplicated disc that they get on a screen-printed pressed disc. But existing inkjet and thermal print technologies are too slow in a production environment; the colour reproduction is poor and special printable blank media are required. Inkjet print also has the alarming tendency to rub off easily when handled. Screenprint can give the look of pressed CD or DVD, but is not economically viable on short-run duplicated product. However, our ‘Precision Laminate’ system combines high resolution and accurate colour reproduction with a stable finish that doesn’t rub off. We can also achieve the throughput that is required in a commercial CD and DVD duplication facility like ours where quality and express turnaround are top priorities”.
The ‘Precision Laminate’ process consists of specially designed thin paper or plastic laminate sheets, which can be printed in accurate high-resolution CMYK colour on standard high-speed digital print technology. These are then applied to the CD or DVD discs on purpose-designed semi-automatic laminating machinery.
Sounds Good is now offering the ‘Precision Laminate’ process as standard on all duplicated CD & DVD product.
