November 25, 2005 (Press Release) --
Who killed the Dodo?
Folklore has it that it was the Dutch, finding dodo's in Mauritius in great abundance, they ate the lot! This is a cautionary tail. If we all continue to under estimate our resources and dis regard sustainable development it will not just be the Dodo going in to extinction.
Perhaps The Commonwealth meeting should dicuss these issues along with the major issues of political "transparency" and ways to really adress coruption & accountability across the political spectrum.
It is time many Commonwealth and global leaders stop blaming the past for their current ills, it is time to move forward with more vision, plan, create, build a better society for our children.
Mauritius I hope will learn to change, soon.
Working in Paradise…..the Downside.
How I came to be appointed Director General by the State Investment Corporation of Mauritius was for me, a very happy accident! Anyway, an ad for the Director General position in Mauritius tempted me , for a job in Paradise wouldn’t you ? Cautious as ever, having researched all things Mauritian – I was pleased to discover that the Mauritian’s appeared to have a bit of everything you might want in paradise. Not only that, but a considerable investment in a brand spanking new convention centre , so they have considered the importance of Business Tourism and the meetings business. Nothing unusual , but when you think that the project was designed, delivered and they staged a United Nations Convention all in the space of about 24 months, that got my attention, worth talking to, YES! London is still trying to develop such a thing
So, this was not just another job, this one I didn’t need but I wanted to do, the kind of challenge I do excel at,even better they needed me!
Whatever happened to British Airways “putting customers first” programme? The flight to Mauritius with BA appears to be ever popular with BA staff on their “hols”, all upgraded of course. Mediocrity seems to be the new class ruling for service, BA excel there, something that Air Mauritius aspire to. The phrase ‘political nominee’ has become murky and mucky. Transparency is the word on every political opponent’s lips but those in power are dyslexic to truth.
The original owner of Domaine les Pailles is an astute hard nosed practical businessman. sadly since his handover of the estate to the Government uncontrolled decay and a lack of maintenance resources has seen the Domaine lapse towards terminal decline. Could I stop the rot? Not with out proper investment.
Going home is always a lonely, lonely ride;
Was it with the hassle? Yes, I loved almost every moment; it was an enriching experience even though it ended up a shipwreck!I think they have the variant of the old Brit disease. The Mauritian variant is more virulent.
If you’re a buyer of “escape capsule” holiday packages try one to Mauritius, but don’t step out of the capsule.Investing in Mauritius, as always, act with due diligence and caution.
