On December 9th EDclectic Entertainment will be hosting a program called "Music and A Movie at ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar in New York City." The night will feature a screening of the feature length documentary "25 Strong" . The evening will also feature performances by Purpose recording artist Monet (featured on the soundtrack) with special guest Jeremy James.
Directed and produced by Kevin Harewood and Stephen Booth in the summer of 2004 "25 Strong" celebrates and outlines the 25 (now 26) year history of Kevin Bushell's Bed Stuy Pre Teen Classic. Though it has operated for 26 years without political or corporate sponsorship that backs many such leagues The Pre teen Classic has become an integral part of The Bedford Stuyvesant summer landscape. The league has served as a deterrent from much of the negativity that plagues such inner city neighborhoods. NBA players such as Stephon Marbury of The New York Knicks, Jamaal Tinsley of The Indiana Pacers and Rafer "Skip to My Lou" played in the league in their youth and are interviewed in the film. The film includes what is reputed to be the first independent soul soundtrack which features artists such as Cooly's Hot Box, Patrice Roberts, Maya Azucena, the above mentioned Monet and others
The evenings events begin at 7:30PM.
