December 1, 2005 (Press Release) --
Cat Galaxy, the internet radio station for cats has announced its intention to move from Live365 to a new audio streaming provider in the next couple of months. The station which began broadcasting on Live365 in 2001 was the first station for cats to do so and earlier this year won the Best Freeform Station award from that provider beating out many stations for humans. The move is due to Cat Galaxy's growth and because of recent interest in businesses looking to advertise on the station.
"This move will be a real positive step for us (and Cat Galaxy) and also allow us to upgrade the station's audio stream and open things up to advertising since we've had interest in that area . We simply don't have room to grow anymore (on Live365) where we are streaming through right now and still have it be cost effective. I have always believed that this is a very special station, so why not take the risk and move?" said Nohl Rosen, one of the owners of Cat Galaxy.
One of the other goals of the station's move is to increase the current audio stream from 64kps CD quality stereo to 128kps CD quality stereo. Cat Galaxy has already purchased a new audio mixer and microphone in order to enhance the station and give the audience better sound quality. The move of the station also provides another surprise for listeners which they might not realize. The station would move from personal broadcasting to professional, which would mean the station could broadcast live 24/7 instead of the current autoplay and additional live shows.
"Going pro was always an option with this station and now we have the perfect opportunity to do it. This is a great change which our feline audience will enjoy and benefit from. A lot of hard work has gone into this station and to be live 24/7 will be a challenge that we are willing to face. An autoplay is always still possible though as we do like to take breaks from the station from time to time," Rosen added.
Cat Galaxy was created as a result of Rosen merely listening to what his cat Isis wanted to listen to. One day he was relaxing when Isis started meowing. She didn't want food, water or even to play. She wanted to hear some music.
Isis who is the other owner of Cat Galaxy is also station manager and has two other felines on the station's staff including her sister Jade (Assistant Station manager), and brother Icarus (Program Director). Nohl who is known on the air as catprotector is the only human staff member. The station currently plays freeform music but the station refers to it as Feline Freeform.
"Everything we play on the station is approved by the cats. If they don't like an a song then it doesn't get aired. This station has always been for cats by cats. No move will ever change that," Rosen said.
The station's freeform genre includes Smooth Jazz, Rock, Classic Rock, Funk, Swing, Pop, 80's, 90's, Alternative, and Alternative Rock. The station currently has 5 live shows during the week Monday-Friday.
