Amman, Jordan (December 2005) – Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) whereby the latter will begin holding an e-Learning course on the PSUT campus for undergraduates of Computer Science. The e-Learning course is aligned with PSUT’s objectives to enhance the academic and vocational skills of its students. Furthermore, the course will be administered by Jordan's Minhaj Educational Technologies Company.
At a ceremony held on the PSUT campus, the agreement was signed on behalf of PSUT by its President, Professor Hisham Ghassib and on behalf of JICA by Mr. Hideo Morikawa, the Resident Representative of JICA Jordan Office. The ceremony also included signing a similar MOU with the University of Jordan represented by it’s president Prof. Abdel-Rahim Alhunaiti. Mr. Ghassan Lahham, CEO Minhaj Educational Technologies, also attended the ceremony.
The agreement is a stepping stone for both PSUT and JICA towards further development and enhancement between them in order to maximize the students’ ability to access information and tap into resources that would prepare them for pursuing their careers.
PSUT recently hosted the first of these fifteen 46-hour courses with the participation of 40 ICT students whereby they were updated on the latest in e-Learning and online education.
Japanese professors and lecturers are participating through video conferencing sessions, allowing real time interaction with them, and which will enable and maximize interactivity and will expose the students to the Japanese ICT methodologies and tap into their pool of knowledge.
Professor Hisham Ghassib stated, "Since PSUT was founded we have been aggressively working towards consistently updating and upgrading our courses to maintain our alignment with the ICT industry and its fast pace. Therefore, our agreement with JICA will assist PSUT in retaining our alignment and continuously expose our students to the latest in communication technologies and expertise preparing them for the future. In addition, we strongly believe that it will lay the foundation for further cooperation in the future. "
Mr. Morikawa said, "We were greatly impressed by the advanced ICT-based studies and majors that PSUT offers, and JICA is pleased to assist PSUT by facilitating interaction with Japanese instructors, which will expose its students to the latest in ICT technologies."
On his part, Mr. Ghassan Lahham, CEO Minhaj Educational Technologies, claimed, "Minhaj has worked closely with PSUT and JICA in preparing for the course and has facilitated the project with all its required materials. Finally, at Minhaj, we strive to make our resources available for the local educational institutions to utilize as needed in an effort to keep Jordan’s academic scene updated and competitive on all levels. "
