December 4, 2005 (Press Release) -- Richardson, Texas — December 1, 2005 — Orbit Micro an industrial and server systems integrator, has announced the availability of their Souris D and Dravus Industrial Computer Systems. The Souris D and Dravus industrial computers are backplane-based systems in both rackmount and bench top form factors. Designed for both enterprise computing and industrial computing applications, these systems are available in a variety of different configurations with processor support for legacy Pentium MMX processors all the way up to extreme performance Intel Xeon Processors.

Support for legacy devices and hardware is becoming an increasing problem in the current computer market. Users are seeking more power while still being able to support proprietary legacy devices. In some instances IT professionals have legacy systems that are failing after such a long period of time and need replacing, but are having trouble finding solutions that will run their proprietary applications. Orbit Micro’s Souris D and Dravus systems are able to support legacy hardware with increased performance from Intel Pentium 4 and Xeon processors. For legacy applications requiring slower clock speeds and older CPU architecture, Souris D and Dravus systems are available with Socket 7 Pentium MMX and Pentium 3 processors.

The Souris D systems represent Orbit Micro’s line of rackmount industrial computers that range from 1U to 8U. These systems offer longevity and maximum IO expansion up to 19 PCI or ISA slots. They are available in a multitude of processor types including Intel Xeon, Pentium 4, Pentium 3, Pentium M, Pentium MMX, and VIA C3.

Souris D systems are built for industrial environments that are prone to harsh operating temperatures, shock, and vibration. These systems have long life cycles and are guaranteed to stay the same and never change. Customer proprietary applications will be protected and they never have to worry about hardware changes that might affect their software. The Souris D systems are also available with DC power supplies allowing customers to deploy systems in any environment they may have. For extremely harsh environments Orbit Micro offers upgrade options that enhance the ruggedization of their systems.

For the enterprise environment, Souris D systems offer high bandwidth maximum PCI-E and PCI-X expansion for network connectivity applications, storage systems, cluster nodes. For entry-level mission critical enterprise systems Souris D systems offer trouble free easy maintenance in case of a failure. If the main system board fails it can be replaced quickly within a matter of seconds, hard drives and power supplies are hot swap removable and also offer easy maintenance.

The Dravus systems are Orbit Micro’s line of bench top compact/wallmount industrial computers. These systems offer a compact form factor for multiple PCI and/or ISA slots. Models are also available that offer support for full length cards. Processor options include Intel Xeon, Pentium 4, Pentium 3, Pentium M, Pentium MMX, and VIA C3. Designed to operate in industrial environments, the Dravus line is capable of operating in extended temperature ranges as well as shock and vibration prone environments.

The Souris D and Dravus industrial computer systems provide engineers and IT professionals with unique solutions that are highly expandable, and extremely open platform. Souris D and Dravus systems are able to accommodate multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, QNX, and Wind River.
