As the first General Manager of Manx Radio, John is also the voice that launched Manx Radio, the UK’s first officially licensed commercial station in 1964. John is widely regarded as the father of UK Commercial Radio and his involvement in commercial radio worldwide spans several decades.
John Grierson will present a monthly comment programme covering current affairs over a wide spectrum of issues. The programmes will be recorded at a private studio facility in Cornwall and uploaded to the Celtica programme server using custom-provided Celtica software.
Celtica’s Managing Director Bill Everatt said, “Over the past three months John has been looking carefully at what Celtica Radio has to offer, and what we stand for. I am delighted that we have managed to attract such a respected and experienced broadcasting talent.
“John will also be advising us on a number of matters, and this practical assistance will enable us to expand."
John Grierson : " There's no doubt in my mind that Celtica is pointing the way to the future", he says, " and I have nothing but respect for Bill Everatt and the Celtica Radio team for the pioneering work they are doing. It's a pleasure to be part of that team and to play any part I can to help Celtica go from strength to strength."
In addition to John Grierson joining Celtica Radio, the writer and former news broadcaster Andrew John, who has worked in commercial radio in the English Midlands and Wales, has also begun contributing regular material to Celtica. Andrew will be providing a sideways, slightly impish, look at current events in no particular order, as part of the station’s Underground Edition programme, and this marks his return to regular broadcasting after thirteen years.
Celtica Radio now creates programmes from a network of studios in Newtown, Pembrokeshire, Swansea, Bridgend, St Athan, Newport, Yorkshire and Cornwall.
