Some time ago, we have received an email from our regular visitor who wrote something very interesting that we would like to pass to the general public! Although we find bird flu to be one of the biggest threats to humans, we have found some interesting things that we would like you to know, and we have some questions that we would like to ask, since we think that there might be something behind the rise of the “bird flu awareness”!
Last couple of years, a lot has been said about the bird flu. But, bird flu is not a new thing to human kind. Avian influenza has been known to have caused Spanish Flu Epidemic in 1918. Here are the questions we have to ask:
1. How come so much attention has been given to the Bird Flu lately? Is there a connection between rise of bird flu awareness and US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld who is the former CEO of Gilead Sciences, the company that licences anti bird flu drug Tamiflu to Roche?
2. How come so much attention has been paid to bird flu lately, despite the fact that there are only 71 registered deaths so far in last couple of years, while there are 6 billion people living on the face of the earth? How many people are dying every day from the consequences of hunger, poverty, aids, and many other diseases?
3. How come it is agreed with Vietnamese government that Tamiflu will be produced over there to protect the entire population of Vietnam (83,535,576), as you can read in one of our previous entries here: Vietnam to produce anti bird flu drug Tamiflu?
4. How big is the US budget for anti bird flu researches and are $3.9 billion going to be added to anti pandemic drug budget? Source: CNN
