December 19, 2005 (Press Release) --
What comes to mind when you see the Internet domain name HowToScrew.com? Internet entrepreneur, I. O’Neil Williams, registered the name earlier this year with domain name registrar TranswebSystems.com with a view to developing a website with tips on doing handyman jobs around the house. He is quite aware however that visitors might go to the website with something else on their mind.
In fact some Internet entrepreneurs might recommend that the name be used for a porn or sex education site. Sex, after all, is one of the most profitable categories in the world of online commerce.
The domain name registrar, TranswebSystems.com (also operated by Williams) has seen a wide variety of names being registered as the names represent the real estate of the online world. Many “domainers” make a substantial living out of trading or monetising domain names. One of the early pioneers, Rick Schwartz, was recently quoted in an article appearing in Business2.0 (December 2005 issue) as saying he makes two million annually.
Truth is, it costs less than $10 to register a domain name but the name can then be sold and resold for thousands or even millions in some cases. The markup is incredible! The bad news: most if not all the really valuable names have already been registered. There is however a very active secondary market with public weekly sales reports available from DNJournal.com.
In the meantime, Williams admits that he is open to offers for HowToScrew.com though he expects that developing a website with the name will be a much more profitable strategy in the longer term.
TranswebSystems.com in addition to domain name registration services also provides a full suite of Internet commerce tools including the ability to create a fully functional ecommerce website in minutes.
