December 21, 2005

Cuernavaca, Mexico, December 20, 2005 U.S. expatriate in Mexico launches website to help others enjoy their transition into a new culture.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 21, 2005 -- Cuernavaca, Mexico, December 20, 2005 - During 2005 Julia Taylor launched a website focused on how it feels to live or retire in Mexico. She moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico three years ago and found that there is a need for information on how to handle culture shock and to integrate into Mexican society. Her research on the Internet showed that the emotional part of becoming an expatriate is largely ignored. She created home-sweet-mexico.com to answer the heartfelt questions asked by prospective and recent expatriates.

There are many websites that focus on the act of moving to Mexico such as finding a moving company and dealing with immigration documents, but very few include information on how to enjoy living here, says Taylor, I felt very alone in my culture shock and ached to read about others experiences. I wanted to know how others had dealt with it. Home-sweet-mexico.com is my gift to others who are facing the same challenges I faced.

The website covers cultural differences between the US and Mexico, speaking and studying Spanish, safety, typical lifestyles in Mexico, and a new section on Christmas which includes tips on handling culture shock at Christmas time and Mexican Christmas traditions with songs and recipes.

In a message to Taylor dated December 12, 2005, Cheryl Allaby, Canadian expatriate in Mexico writes, I think [your website] is amazing!! I learned a lot, mostly things I had closed my mind to and thought I was the one who was right. Your favour network info was really eye-opening; I mean I understood but I had no idea how strong this was. Thank you for making me love my home away from home, even if just for the next few minutes! Hopefully I can keep in mind the things you taught me.

When you live or retire in Mexico your heart gets touched in many ways, adds Taylor, but it is easy to get stuck in anger and frustration, which are normal parts of culture shock. I hope that home-sweet-mexico can help others enjoy their expatriate transition.
