January 3, 2006 (Press Release) --
“First of all, I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year. I believe that 2006 brings us an opportunity to repair the mistakes of yesterday, improve the reality of today, and forge the future that will be tomorrow,” stated Imperato.
“For Syria, I wish them acceptance in the global community. Here, we have a country that wanted to be part of our global society, but when they came to the table they were greeted with scandal, slander, and accusations. We must let the Hariri probe play out, and we must extend an olive branch to Bashar Al-Assad and welcome him to the international community.”
“For Mexico, I wish them better relations with their neighbor to the north, the United States of America. America needs to learn that their problems won’t be solved by a fence, and Vicente Fox and the Mexican leadership need to understand that conditions must improve to give Mexicans incentive to stay in Mexico.”
“For Russia and Iran, I wish that they understand that the world cannot support nuclear proliferation for a country that is not an active member in good standing with the global community. Nuclear power left unchecked is a danger to the world; and there are alternative ways to generate energy that do not involve nuclear development.”
“For China, I wish that the United States will realize that when dealing with China, we must approach them with diplomacy, and not demands. I reach out to President Hu Jintao and ask him to open up relations, and markets to the United States and the world, and join the global community in giving aid to those countries less fortunate.”
“For India, I wish them increased growth and development. We are starting to see a tremendous amount of outsourcing to India as well as advances in their educational and technology sectors. The United States needs to work with India to help improve their infrastructure and expand opportunity in one of the fastest growing regions of the world.”
“For our partners in the European Union, I wish that we can move forward in cooperation, not competition. The United States and the European Union can be great partners in the global community; however, we must join together for common goals and learn to view situations from each other’s perspective.”
After outlining his wishes for the New Year, Imperato finished his statement by focusing on the United States.
“I would like to conclude my statement with my wish for America. My wish for our nations is a wish of peace and prosperity. My hope is that every family in America can realize the promise of freedom and take advantage of the gift of opportunity. We need a strong economy, renewed focus on the family, respect for faith, support for our troops, and to maintain the American way of liberty and justice for all.”
