Aside from minimal side effects , the drug has been proven to be extremely successful in minimizing arthritis pain. Like ibuprofen and naproxen sodium, Bextra is considered a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) as well as a Cox-2 inhibitor. Bextra is a prescription drug that can only be legally distributed on the advice of a doctor. Risk Factors and Bextra Side Effects
Bextra is not intended to be prescribed for everyone. If you have shown an allergic reaction to previous NSAID drugs, or are allergic to any of Bextra's ingredients, you should not take this drug. Additionally, all NSAID drugs can negatively impact the liver, so people with existing liver problems should stay away from Bextra. As one of the common side effectcts of bextra is fluid retention, people with high blood pressure or heart problems should avoid using Bextra as it will exacerbate the problem. As with all NSAID drugs, stomach ulcers and bleeding are one of the possible effects. Patients with current stomach disorders should not take Bextra.
Additional Bextra Side Effects
Clinical tests have shown that there are several Bextra side effects to be aware of while taking the drug. While these side effects did not bother most patients, a small percentage experienced one or more Bextra side effects . If any side effects or symptoms appear, patients are instructed to notify their doctor immediately. Bextra side effects have been known to include:
* Stomach or abdominal pain
* Black stool
* Vomit with the appearance of blood or coffee grounds
* Indigestion/Nausea
* Headache
* Diarrhea
* Rash
* Fatigue
* Jaundice
* Fluid retention/swelling of extremities
As with any drug, pregnant or nursing mothers should notify your doctor prior to being prescribed Bextra. Additionally, doctors should be made fully aware of current prescriptions you are taking and any existing health problems that could affect the benefits of taking Bextra.
While Pfizer has noted that it does not agree with the severity of the findings, it has pulled Bextra from distribution in deference to the need for additional studies and testing.
