Elite Musketeer Fencers Club in Menlo Park is holding one of the largest Regional Youth Circuit tournaments on the West Coast this weekend at the Onetta Harris Community Center in Menlo Park, California, January 7-8, 2005. The City
More than 150 participants from California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon and even New Jersey and New York will compete in events in the three fencing weapons (foil, epee, and saber). These are the youngest three groups of fencers starting to compete as early as 7 years of age in Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14 age categories. Nevertheless some of the participating fencers are already ranked at the top of the country fencing charts.
The Regional Youth Circuit (RYC) is the group of youth tournaments governed by the United States Fencing Association that serve an important part of the development in the sport of fencing, for young athletes and their parents. This is the first round of tournaments that young fencers can enter that serve as qualifying path for get to the National American Cups and the National Fencing Championships.
The Menlo Park RYC is one in a series of four tournaments this season at which fencers will qualify to compete at the National American Cup in Houston, Texas in February 2006 and Summer National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia in July 2006.
The youngest fencing stars of the Bay Area will duel to determine the best. Twenty events will be held over the 2 days period. Some events have over 40 fencers competing for the top finalist title in each gender and age category.
The main sponsor and organizer of the competition is a local Menlo Park fencing club, Elite Musketeer Fencers’ Club. Elite Musketeer Fencers Club, established in 2004, is a new state-of-art fencing facility located in Menlo Park, CA. Featuring eight electrical fencing strips and outstanding coaching staff, EMFC offers programs from elite competitive fencers to beginner recreational fencers. EMFC members compete in local, Regional Youth Circuit, North American Cups, and World Cup events, and feature Medalist in North American Cups, American Championships, International Competitions, and World Cups. Elite Musketeer Fencers’ Clu offers community recreation programs and teaches fencing at schools throughout the Bay Area, in addition to offering programs and classes at the fencing club in Menlo Park.
The Regional Youth Circuit competition begins Saturday, January 7th, 2006. Fencing begins at 8:30 a.m. each day and will continue through the early evening. Fencing will be held at the Onetta Harris Community Center at 100 Terminal Avenue in Menlo Park, California. Admission is free and open to the public. Local volunteers will be on hand to provide spectator information.
