Houston, TX -- January 9, 2006 -- A Houston area teen received quite a surprise when he showed up to hear a local band play Saturday night. He walked away with a new Fender guitar and a Crate amplifier.
Fifteen year old Taylor Lonsford was the first recipient of the Rockin’ Relics Guitar Scholarship. The Rockin’ Relics, a Houston based Classic Rock, Country, and Blues band, recently started the program in an effort to provide aspiring young guitarists with the tools of the trade. “It’s always better to give than receive,” said Wayne Pruitt, the band’s guitarist/vocalist. “We have been blessed, and this is our way of giving back. We will do this at several of our upcoming gigs this year. Some recipients have been nominated by our fan base, and others will be chosen by random drawings at our gigs,” he added.
Pruitt expects the band to give away at least 6 guitars and amps in 2006. The Rockin’ Relics have been together since 2002, performing at corporate events, weddings, and private parties. The roster includes Wayne Pruitt (guitar, vocals), Kelly Chambers (lead vocals), Steve Foster (bass, vocals), Ken Childers (guitar), Harry Forehand (keyboards, harmonica, vocals), and Brian Mauk (drums).
