January 11, 2006 (Press Release) --
For many women, Valentine’s day is one of the most painful reminders of lost love and the inability to find the love that they want. Women everywhere are dreading going to work on February 14 and seeing their co-worker’s desks laced with bouquets of flowers. Jonterri Gadson used to be one of those women, until she learned to binge and purge. With her newly released collection of poetry, binge & purge, she hopes that anyone dreading Valentine’s Day will be able to do the same.
Not to be confused with an eating disorder, binge & purge, illustrates the concept of binging on what matters most to you (love) and purging the pain of decisions and/or relationships that are no longer positive.
“A lot of women come out of relationships feeling like victims,” Gadson, the “breakup survivor” and self-published poet said, “They have to realize that although becoming a ‘victim’ of a breakup may not have been their choice, whether or not to remain one is entirely up to them."
Fueled by her desire to “do something beautiful” with the pain of failed relationships, Gadson wrote the selected poetry over the course of a year. The poetry in the book inspired her to enter and win poetry contests and led to several wins at poetry slam competitions as well.
“When a woman, or anyone for that matter, gets out of a relationship,” Gadson stated, “she has the extraordinary opportunity to redirect the passion she felt for her ex-lover into something that can benefit her emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I never would’ve written a book if I never had that experience."
The process of binging and purging on love and pain is simple:
• Taking accountability for one’s role in the outcome of the relationship
• Realizing what is really desired from a relationship before dating again
• Learning to distinguish between love and lust
• Accepting love when you find it
“'binge & purge' is what you do after realizing ‘he’s just not that into you’,” said Gadson, referencing the best selling relationship book for women “He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys” by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccilo.
