New Internet Resource Provides Point-of-Contact for Purchasers and Quality-Certified Suppliers

Qualitymfg.net is a searchable database to help purchasing and procurement professionals reach local companies that meet their requirements for standardized quality management practices such as ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485, ISO/IEC 17025, AS9100, or ISO/TS 16949:2003.

The draft database went online in December 2005 and is currently being revised. �I started with a list of approximately 2000 companies that is probably best described as a historical document,� said Pat Richard, webmaster and president of qualitymfg.net llc. �The task at that point was to run down each company�s contact information, find out what products or services they offered and attempt to determine if they indeed were certified to a particular standard. It was labor-intensive, but really fascinating. I was impressed by the variety of items produced in right here in New England. I�m hoping that by creating the qualitymfg.net web site, I will provide an enhanced web presence for companies that I consider to be an elite subset of the manufacturing community.�

Richard went on to explain that although the database is currently operating, it is still in the development stage. The qualitymfg.net team will be contacting the companies presently listed in the database to fill in the gaps in their certification information. �I visited hundreds of web sites, and I was astounded by how many of them failed to provide critical information to their visitors. For example, I think that complete contact information should be listed on a company�s home page, and on every page of their web site. It�s amazing how much time can be wasted simply looking for an address. Finding information about quality certifications can be frustrating too. I believe that if you�re going to expend the effort of creating a company web site, providing access to basic information is critical. Purchasing agents don�t have time to waste hunting for these things. I want qualitymfg.net to become the kind of web site where purchasers can jump in and get important information efficiently.�
Qualitymfg.net offers free listings for qualified companies that include their location, a description of their products and services, and the types of quality certifications they have achieved. Economically priced enhanced listings include complete contact information and a live link to the company web site. All companies in the draft database have a complimentary enhanced listing until the first major revision is complete.

The web site has a category page to make finding a particular product or service fast and efficient; a page devoted to explanations of various quality standards; and links to other web sites of interest. Future plans for the site include articles on quality management and purchasing topics, and an enhanced site search.
