January 13, 2006 (Press Release) --
January 10, 2006. A nineteen-year-old college student from Thousand Oaks, California is turning heads with an innovative approach to Internet marketing. His website, www.clickaday.net, offers visitors a once daily chance to click on the winning advertiser’s link and be entered into a drawing for a weekly prize give away. Advertisers can purchase link space directly on the site’s game board.
Where did he come up with the idea? The site’s creator, Alex Jacobitz, explains, “I had seen a lot of online advertising banners with gimmicks like ‘free prize waiting for you’ and ‘get a new iPod for completing our survey,’ but they always turn out to be really misleading.” The spam advertising he refers to promises a free prize, then requires the user to spend time and money signing up for multiple subscriptions or product promotions before receiving the “free prize”. In deliberate contrast, Clickaday.net promises that 1 well-placed click is all it takes to win.
Until recently, Alex attended the University of California, San Diego as a physics major. He dropped out recently saying, “The first semester was fun, but it was expensive and too time consuming. Everyone says I’m still young, but my life is going so fast. I wanted to do something right now.” He purposely set up the game board so that when he sells out every ad space, it will produce 1 million dollars in income.
“I’m always looking for new ways to bring traffic to the site and help out my advertisers. More advertisers means better prizes and that means I can make the site more enjoyable for players at the same time.”
Among his most noteworthy ideas is “Free–for-all Friday”, where the 1 click a day limit is lifted and visitors are allowed unlimited chances to click the winning advertisement on the Friday following any week where no player has yet clicked on the winning advertisement. “The first person to click the right one will get the prize.” Though this concept has not been implemented yet, Alex says the new feature would be available on www.clickaday.net soon.
