January 16, 2006 (Press Release) --
New York City – January 11, 2006 – Anthony Caccamo, a former USAF C-5 Galaxy Pilot from New York, is attempting to raise $2 Million dollars to help his fellow Disabled Veterans. He plans to do so by selling 2 million pixels on his website for $1 apiece. The website will serve as both a center for donations and a permanent internet memorial to those that have served this nation. The idea to launch the website was inspired by Mr. Alex Tew, a young Englishman that recently raised over $1 Million Dollars for college with his Million Dollar Homepage. Mr. Caccamo is doing this to provide much needed support and help for disabled veterans, and is especially motivated by the mounting number of casualties from our conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of his friends are still serving in those locations.
Mr. Caccamo has flown active duty missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Noble Eagle. He states: “many of my friends and peers are still serving on the front lines, and as a pilot I’ve had the opportunity to meet many of the good men and women that have volunteered to put themselves in harms way…I’d like to do something to give back to these people.” “Much of the media attention has gone away from coverage of the war in Iraq, and I hardly ever see Afghanistan in the news anymore.” “I’d like to try to bring the attention of the American public back to these places so they don’t forget what’s going on there.”
Anthony is a disabled veteran himself, and currently a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. The three main charities that he is targeting with his campaign are: the Disabled American Veterans, the Association for Service Disabled Veterans, and Homes for Our Troops. Funds collected will always be public knowledge, and his goal is to hit the $2 Million dollar mark within a year.
Pixelsforvets.com is meant to serve as a Permanent Online Memorial as well as a center for donations. It is dedicated to those who have given their all to support our country, and is a place where Americans can show their support for the troops without regard for political opinions. Mr. Caccamo plans to keep this website up and running indefinitely.
