January 18, 2006 (Press Release) --
Colorado-January 17, 2006-In a recent series that has some people up in arms, Michael Fleming, No Salvation Ink artist has defied convention once again. Fleming’s latest series, “The Dead Presidents” is a grotesque look at some of the more famous or infamous leaders of our country. The portraits are done completely in gray with an eerie realistic look. Included in the series are ten United States Presidents: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, William Clinton, and George W. Bush.
The ten leaders, respected as a part of history have been defiled by the hand of Michael Fleming, who has in the words of one admirer, “given them a sort of evil makeover.” Taking a break from traditional comic renderings, Michael Fleming has created these portraits not only to depict the men, but to show them as monstrosities. President Lincoln, celebrated for the abolition of slavery and his part in the civil war has been drawn as a sort of demon with the number 13 (a reference to the thirteenth amendment) branded into his forehead. Our current Chief of State, George W. Bush is a grinning vampire.
The young artist says the works do not represent his personal political views, but others are outraged. Even John F. Kennedy, a president whom the entire nation mourned, has been given an “evil twist.”
The series is posted for the entire world to see at the Inkaholics LLC website, www.inkaholicsllc.com . “Others may see the art as a form of disrespect,” says Fleming, “to me, it’s just art.” With the uproar the series has already created, “just art” seems to be the last thing on anyone’s mind.
