January 22, 2006 (Press Release) --
BOISE, IDAHO – The Pride Foundation, a major funder of LGBT organizations and programs in the Pacific Northwest, has made a $500 grant to support the completion of “The Fall of ’55,” a documentary about the 1955 morals investigations in Boise commonly called “The Boys of Boise” cases. Seth Randal, the local filmmaker who has been working on “The Fall of ‘55” for five years, called the grant a “significant contribution to help us pay some major expenses necessary to complete the film. We’re extremely proud and grateful for the support of the Pride Foundation.”
Filming and interviewing for the documentary wrapped up last summer, and Randal and his team of filmmakers are now wrapping-up editing. He has submitted the film for consideration by several film festivals later this year. Major expenses left include payment of fees for the right to incorporate historic film footage into the documentary, legal expenses, and entry fees for film festivals. “The Friends of the Fall of ’55,” a Boise-based organization formed to assist in raising completion funds, held a series of house parties this Fall to help raise funds, and will continue to do so this Spring.
Randal hopes to be able to screen the film in Boise this summer.
The morals drive started in October of 1955 as an investigation of men having sex with teenage boys. But as public outrage grew, the direction of the investigation changed, eventually encompassing consenting adults. In all, 16 men were prosecuted. Countless others lived in fear that each knock at the door could bring the police. Other men, even whole families, fled Boise. “The Fall of ‘55” tells the story of men and women touched by the investigation.
"The Community Center" assisted Randal in securing the grant by serving as the grant’s cosponsor. For more information about the film, go to its website at http:// www.fallof55.com. ###
