January 29, 2006 (Press Release) --
Local resident and web developer John Acheson has created a new Valentines Day promotion which is also designed to help several diverse charities.
The "Virtual Valentine" allows the visitor to create a Valentines Day message, complete with Valentines Day themed images, for a special person in their life. A notice and a link to view the message will be emailed to the recipient on February 14. The Valentine sender will also be notified when the recipient has viewed the Valentine message.
By sending the Valentine, the sender also chooses one of several listed charities. One dollar of the $2.75 fee will go to the chosen charity. After Valentine's Day, all customers will be sent a listing of how much money was raised for each charity. The customer receives a receipt that shows the one dollar donation amount as a separate line item. Mr. Acheson will not be making any deduction claims on his own tax records from this promotion.
While the charity list is national in scope, several on the list are Wisconsin based, with one, The Hope Pregnancy Center, being Wausau based.
"I chose the charitable organizations from my own life", says Mr. Acheson. "With each organization, either I believe strongly in their mission, or my own life was touched in some way by their work, or the cause they work for. While this promotion is without a doubt a profit-seeking venture, it's also an opportunity for me to give back more than I could on my own."
The charitable organizations listed are:
* Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc.
* The Cerebral Palsy Center
* Hope Pregnancy Resource Center
* Jubilee House
* Operation Iraqi Children
