Brian Carrier and Simson Garfinkel join company to lead effort

Cambridge, Massachusetts, January 31, 2006—Basis Technology announced today the launch of an initiative to create the next generation of digital forensics products, and the appointment of two renowned experts to lead this effort.
Brian Carrier, author of one of the standard reference books on forensics "File System Forensic Analysis," will join Basis Technology as Director of the recently created Digital Forensics Group. Mr. Carrier is also well known as the author of two widely used open-source forensics tools, Sleuth Kit and Autopsy. He expects to receive his Ph.D. in computer science from Purdue University this spring.
Dr. Simson Garfinkel, a well-known author and award-winning journalist has accepted the position of Consulting Scientist and Forensics Software Architect. Dr. Garfinkel is presently a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University and the author of the open-source Advanced Forensics Format (AFF) software library. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is the author and co-author of fourteen books on computing.
