February 8, 2006 (Press Release) --
On Saturday, Feb 4, 2006, parents, faculty and staff of Delphi Academy met for a fundraiser and a sunset dinner at La Jolla’s Brockton Villa restaurant. At the fundraiser parents donated over $30,000 to purchase 30 new computers, software, technical support and computer furniture for the school's computer lab, classrooms and administrative offices.
Shivi Aiyar, age 11, "I can’t believe it! It will be so cool!”. Caitlin Fish, age 7, looks forward to the new computers because “they will help me research animals better!”. And Katie Bonnett, age 6, is excited because “they will help me learn math and do more research.”
The event began with appetizers overlooking La Jolla Cove and a raffle to win a week stay in a cabin in Big Bear. During the meal parents gave testimonials about how much Delphi Academy means to their families and children. “As a busy father, I know I don’t get to spend as much time with my son as I want to, but when he is not with me, I know he is in very good hands. Having my son attend Delphi makes me feel like a better father,” said Jim Collas. “At Delphi all the students are so bright and amazing; they will be the future leaders of our world,” said Tom Armstrong of Armstrong Construction.
The parents’ response was touching to the staff. “Hearing our parent body tell us how much Delphi means to them was a tremendous validation for all the staff,” said Director Sίofra Nugent. “The strong support shown by our parent body to fund this amazing project surpassed all expectations!”
